UW Medicine Hospitals Garner the Only National Rankings in Washington State

UW Medicine’s two largest hospitals — University of Washington Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center — are the only hospitals in the state which received national recognition in the 2018–2019 U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best hospitals in the U.S.

UW Medical Center received top national rankings in nine areas, including No. 5 in rehabilitation medicine (with Harborview Medical Center), No. 7 in cancer care (with the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance), and No. 12 in diabetes and endocrinology. Harborview Medical Center ranked No. 32 nationally in urology.

For the seventh consecutive year, UW Medical Center earned both the No. 1 hospital ranking in Washington state and in the Seattle metropolitan area. For the rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions.

About the rankings
For the 2018–19 rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 158 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high-performing across multiple areas of care. Some of the rankings are determined primarily by data; other rankings are determined entirely by reputation, based on responses from physicians over a three-year period.
